Cardiff Met. Squad named for 2012-13 season
Following a hugely successful 2011-12 BUCS season, Cardiff Metropolitan University Cricket Club (CMUCC) Head Coach and Performance Director Mark O'Leary has named a strong squad ahead of the upcoming 2012-13 BUCS Indoor and Outdoor season. Cardiff Met. CC are defending champions of the BUCS Indoor Championships after overpowering Exeter in the 2012 Final at Lord's. Wicketkeeper-batsman, former MCC Young Cricketer and Masters student Adam Miles will once again lead CMUCC for the third successive season with talisman Phil Harris expected to be named as his deputy. Lee Watkins is also expected to retain the 2nd XI captaincy after having the whole 2nd XI season washed out last academic year.
As with every year, the squad goes through a large turnover of squad members as 3rd years graduate and move on to new heights while freshers join the university fraternity and begin the greatest 3 years (or more for some members of the squad!) of their lives. This season, we have lost several core members of the 1st XI including masters graduate Tom 'Old Lambchops' Maynard (namesake), last season's 1st XI vice-captain Darren 'Rousa' Rouse, Michael 'Barbs' Barber, James 'The Don' Hammerton and Dan 'Bendo' Bendon as well as stalwarts of the formerly known 'UWIC Cricket Club' such as Peter 'Lamby' Lamb and Tom 'Tina' Turner. Other 3rd year leavers include, Joe Maiden, Will Sparrow and James Walsh. Several freshers from last year are also missing from this year's squad through various reasons. However on the bright side, we have retained the services of Performance Analyst Jim Eccleshare who has made a remarkable recovery from his horrific mobility-threatening leg injury and will be starting his PhD in Sport Coaching at Cardiff Met. this year. Finally, we welcome back Tom McNeillie, the notable inclusion in this year's squad who was unavailable for selection last season due to academic obligations in Australia. The 38-man squad comprises of 22 members from last season's squad, 14 freshers and includes 10+ former and current Cardiff MCCU representatives.
The 2012-13 squad is as follows:
