TEAMS
UWIC Cricket Club provides two teams for Men's 1st and 2nd XI's as well as opportunities to compete in indoor competitions at local and national level.
Both teams compete in the BUCS Indoor and Outdoor competitions. Training and coaching is supervised by coaches and staff from the MCC Centre of Excellence which is based at UWIC. The centre provides UWIC students with the opportunity to play against first class opposition through a funded scheme designed to provide a pathway for talented cricketers into the First Class game. During the seven years the MCC scheme has been based at UWIC over 50 UWIC students have represented the centre and played in several First Class 3 day county games. The scheme works in close partnership with Glamorgan CCC and provides opportunities for UWIC students who are selected for this pathway to practice and play at a test match venue.
TRAINING
UWIC CC is supported by the expertise of the school of school and players have access to high quality team and individual strength and conditioning programmes, performance analysis and specialised coaching. Mark O'Leary as UWIC C.C. Head Coach provides a coordinated programme of training and practice to prepare players representing UWIC CC for a busy playing schedule. Selection for all teams follows a series of trials and assessments during the Christmas term and is open to all UWIC students who are interested in playing. In addition to selection for UWIC CC there are many opportunities for UWIC students to play league cricket in the South East Wales region. UWIC CC has developed many close partnerships with local clubs and regularly uses their facilities to play games in the summer.
UWIC AND BEYOND
There are many opportunities to play cricket at UWIC and progress through a carefully managed, supported and monitored programme. For those who have aspirations to play at a higher level a clear pathway and professional environment is accessible at UWIC.
